Not only does the month of October bring with it a cooler gust of wind, it’s also the month of Halloween. For many families with young children, it is also a time to buy costumes, sweet treats, and the spookiest Halloween decorations.
Whether you are planning a Halloween party, or getting the kids costumes ready for ‘trick-or-treat’, we’ve got tips to help you spend less.
Do you have unused cardboard lying around the house? Instead of going to the local shop to buy costumes, you could easily make one yourself.
Just collect up some cardboard and gently mould this into shape of a pointy black hat. Then start painting this in black. You can even get the kids involved, it will be a great way to keep them busy and occupied on a weekend.
Are there any clothes you or your children have grown out of? If you have basic sewing skills, you could make a whole new costume out of these clothes. For instance, you can sew an extension to a skirt from other clothes. All you need is a needle and thread.
If you’re not great at DIY, then this one is for you. If you have a white sheet you don’t need any more, all you have to do is cut out large holes around the eye area and cut the sheet to make it more useable. If you think this is too simple, then you can also go the extra mile by adding an additional belt around the waist area. Just make sure it is a white belt so that it blends in nicely.
There are so many ways you can make your own decorations with only a little effort. If you have string, scissors, black paper, glue, white yarn and tape then you’re good to go.
