Many people need help with their finances or to arrange a loan to help
cover all those Christmas expenses. But that’s not easy to do if you have to work six days a week! That’s why Oakam held an Xmas Loan Day on Sunday 9th December last year in Balham.
We based ourselves at the White Eagle Club, a popular Polish Community
Centre where people worship, relax and have fun.
Local Polish people responded very positively to this initiative from Oakam.
And even we were surprised at just how many of you just walked in once news
of the event spread. Everyone who came felt that it was a great idea to be able
to talk to someone (in Polish!) about their finances just before Christmas –
especially on a day when they didn’t have to take time off work.
Over 200 people attended the event and many of them were able to arrange a
loan in principle there and then! It also gave us a great opportunity to take the
Oakam message to a wider community.
Rest assured, we’ll be doing more of these open days in the future.
